I got my 2025 Calligraphy back in November. It’s only done about 1300 miles so far. A few weeks ago, I started getting this warning: ‘Driver Assistance system is limited.’ Anyone else had this issue or know how to fix it?
It’s not really an error, just a warning. If the sensor on top of your steering wheel can’t detect your eyes, the system limits driver assistance features like smart cruise. Sunglasses or having your arm blocking the sensor can trigger it.
@Phoenix
I had to get glasses that the sensor could actually pick up. It’s annoying, but I got those yellow night-driving glasses, and the warning hasn’t come up since.
This happens when your arm or hand blocks the IR eye-tracking sensor. Some sunglasses can also mess with it. It’s in the bottom left of your steering wheel area. Honestly, I don’t love all these driver aids—I’d rather just have regular cruise control and call it a day.
@Zion
If it helps, you can hold the cruise control toggle on your steering wheel to switch to standard (non-adaptive) cruise control. I think it doesn’t rely on the eye sensor, but I haven’t fully tested it yet.
@Chen
I tried that, but it still complained when the sensor was blocked. Frustrating.
@Zion
Same here. My partner’s car has this system, and I’m glad it’s not mine. I tend to drive with my arm up, and it kept beeping at me on a long trip. Really annoying.
@Zion
I took my wife’s car to the car wash yesterday, and honestly, I felt relieved her car has fewer sensors and alerts. But I did miss having auto hold!
I’ve noticed that sunlight can blind the sensor if it’s coming in from the side or behind. It’s super annoying when that happens.
For me, it was ice buildup on one of the bumper sensors. Once the ice melted, the warning went away.
Thankfully, we don’t have this issue in the Middle East.

Canada doesn’t either—it’s honestly a relief!

Definitely a relief. Weirdly, I got downvoted before for saying the same thing.

We don’t have it up north either. Lucky us!
This happened to me yesterday morning. I took off my glasses and used the visor to block the sun, but it still didn’t help. Later in the day, the warning stopped showing up. Really strange since there were no obstructions at all.
I had this happen too. Try cleaning your sensors—it worked for me.
I’m going for a drive today and plan to try covering the sensor with electrical tape. Someone else mentioned it’s smart enough to differentiate between your eyes being obscured and an actual malfunction. Let’s see how it goes.
It’s usually snow, ice, or dirt causing this. I’ve started wiping down the sensors on both of our cars before driving, and the warning hasn’t popped up since.
