I’ve been looking at getting a 2024 or 2025 Santa Fe Hybrid, but then I noticed that the 2024 gas models have big discounts, like 42k for the Calligraphy model vs 49k for the Hybrid Calligraphy. I know there were some serious transmission problems, have those been fixed with recalls?
Also, are there other differences I should consider? The price gap is pretty big. I test drove the hybrid and really liked it; it was very quiet. Is the gas version noticeably louder? Thanks!
I went with the Hybrid and am loving it here in Canada. I stayed away from the gas version because my previous Cadillac had serious transmission issues with its dual-clutch system. I didn’t want to deal with that again. If the Santa Fe didn’t have the DC, I would have probably gone for the gas Calligraphy model. That said, I’m getting about 300 km more per tank with the Hybrid, which will save me about 4k by the end of the year.
@Hale
I get that. But for long road trips, not having a place to charge at home, and poor charging infrastructure in the US, it’s a challenge. Plus, the Santa Fe has better build quality, in my opinion.
@Kingsley
You make great points. I forget that if you don’t have a garage to charge at home, EV life can be a hassle. I just charge at home with my 48-amp charger, and it’s amazing.
I have a 2024 gas model, but it’s been in the shop for 26 days due to battery draw issues. This seems to be an issue with some 2024 models, though not everyone is affected.

We’re having battery draw issues too. We only drive our car a couple of times a month, and we’ve started having dead batteries when we go to use it. We’re keeping it on a trickle charger now. Haven’t brought it up with the dealer yet.
@Brogan
It really is. Hyundai told the dealership they’re working on it, but the engineers came, left, and keep canceling their visits. So, I’m just waiting.

Yeah, they gave me a Mazda CX-90. It’s a nice car, but it’s not my Santa Fe!
I’m sorry you don’t like it! Tell me more about it, though. CX-90 vs Santa Fe?
Well, the CX-90 has a lot of blind spots compared to the Santa Fe, and the second and third rows aren’t as roomy. But the CX-90 does have an inline 6-cylinder engine, and the ride is incredibly smooth.
I bought a 2024 gas Calligraphy last month and have had no issues. They did the transmission computer update in July, and as far as I know, any vehicle that received that update should be fine.
