How's the MPG on the 2025 Gas Engine?

I’m considering a 2025 Santa Fe SEL with a gas engine. Initially, I thought the highway rating of 29 mpg was decent compared to my current CRV which gets 34. However, I’ve been seeing a lot of comments indicating that real-world mileage is lower. For those of you with 2024 or 2025 gas models, what kind of mpg are you getting on long highway trips and overall? Appreciate your insights!

I’m getting about 27 mpg mostly on the freeway (includes hilly stretches driving to Tahoe and back). For my regular commute, which is around half city and half freeway, I see around 23 to 24 mpg. I recommend keeping an eye on the instant mpg reading to figure out how to drive better for fuel efficiency.

@Hart
I have a 2022 hybrid limited and using the instant mpg reading really helps me improve my fuel economy. I usually see mid-30s in the city, while my husband manages high 20s. You don’t have to drive slowly, just more gently on the gas and coast towards stop signs instead of braking hard. It makes a big difference!

True, EPA ratings can be misleading compared to actual driving conditions. A lot depends on your speed, the terrain you’re driving through, and how hard you press the pedal. The newer Santa Fe is larger and boxier, so it’s not surprising that some folks are noticing lower mpg, especially on the highways.

In the city, my 2024 Calligraphy struggles at around 18 to 19 mpg, but the freeway performance is quite good. I once drove 381 miles on a single tank without issue, from SF to LA during Christmas break.

I’m averaging about 25 mpg overall after driving around 7500 miles.

I’ve recorded 18 mpg over 8500 miles, mostly in the city. On the highway alone, I get about 26 mpg.

In my SEL, I’m getting 19 mpg.

I typically see between 27 to 32 mpg depending on traffic conditions for the day.
