Hybrid AWD Calligraphy MPG Insights

Sharing my experience with the Hybrid AWD Calligraphy MPG. The dashboard shows an average of 40 MPG on my recent drive, and I’ve been testing various driving strategies to maximize efficiency. Curious about others’ experiences and tips.

Driving style matters. Can you describe your habits? Some people think hybrids will give great mileage regardless of how they drive.

Absolutely! I focus on using ECO mode, maximize regenerative braking, and use cruise control wherever possible. I also manually accelerate gently when cruise control would otherwise sharply increase speed. Avoiding hard accelerations and planning stops ahead helps a lot too.

@Merlin
I drive gently but only get around 28-29 MPG. Any tips to push that higher?

Does the car have a Smart drive mode?

Yes, it does! I just forgot the name earlier. It’s another great option for balancing efficiency.

Impressive data, but it looks like your average speed is around 40 mph, which is optimal for hybrids. I find highway MPG drops significantly compared to city driving.

Actually, I averaged 55 mph. The 40 you see is my MPG for the latest trip, not the speed.

@Merlin
Ah, I misread. How accurate have you found the MPG calculator compared to manual calculations?

I’ve compared it three times and found it spot-on once and within 0.2-0.7 MPG the other times.

I’m averaging around 28 MPG in snowy NJ conditions. Anxious to see how it improves once it warms up.

I’m in Florida, so the warm weather likely helps a lot. Cold climates can significantly impact MPG.

Climate, terrain, and AWD activation play a big role in MPG. I’ve noticed efficiency drops when climbing hills or in colder conditions.

We don’t have the hybrid version here in Australia. Do you know if the software varies by region?

I’d be surprised if the software differs much. Check your main menu under ‘Hybrid’ to find efficiency-related features.

Your results are impressive! Any chance you’d make a video to teach the rest of us how to drive more efficiently?

We owned a Santa Fe Hybrid Calligraphy for six months before it was totaled. The average MPG was 26.1. We didn’t use extreme measures but were mindful of coasting and regenerative braking. It’s frustrating that it takes such effort to approach the advertised efficiency.

I mostly drive at 75 mph on Texas highways and average 29 MPG. Hoping to see improvements after the first oil change.

I get 33-34 MPG on long highway trips with my gas version at 70 mph. I’ve avoided hybrids so far, though.

Interesting! Any specific reason you’ve avoided hybrids?
