No Sundance for Santa Fe. Any opinions on that?

Hello fellows, No Sundance for Santa Fe. Any thoughts? One of the three finalists is Cincinnati, Ohio—why is that?

Sundance isn’t going anywhere. The organizers are simply looking for some leverage.

I suspect this is just a tactic by Sundance to secure more tax breaks to remain in their current location, framed as a competition. However, if someone offers something significantly better, they might consider it. I’m relieved Santa Fe won’t have to deal with 80-100k people in town for weeks during one of the few relatively quiet times of the year for tourism.

Santa Fe already hosts film festivals, so maybe Sundance wanted a location that doesn’t. Sundance is massive and could overwhelm the town, like other festivals do. The streets and sidewalks aren’t great, and there are many panhandlers, with some being aggressive downtown.

Does Cincinnati face these problems? I’m not sure.

We already have the Santa Fe International Film Festival, and I don’t think Santa Fe fits what Sundance is specifically looking for. I’ve attended both, and they each have distinct atmospheres and cultures.
