Checked out a lightly used hybrid Santa Fe at a dealership yesterday, and the salesperson warned me that installing an aftermarket tow hitch could void the warranty.
Sounds like classic dealership scare tactics to me, but is there any truth to it? Has anyone had issues with warranty claims after adding a hitch?
They can only deny a warranty claim if the aftermarket part directly causes the problem. If your trailer wiring messes up the electrical system or the hitch interferes with something, then yeah, that repair wouldn’t be covered.
I’ve seen aftermarket wiring cause issues with exterior lights, and in those cases, the dealership won’t cover the fix.
For the Santa Fe, the electrical setup is plug-and-play, and the hitch is a simple bolt-on install. As long as you use a good quality kit, you shouldn’t have any issues.
