2024 Santa Fe LED Light Bar… How does it work?

I’m trying to figure out how the headlights and especially the LED light bar between the two headlights work on my 2024 Santa Fe. The owner’s manual has been no help, I’ve looked up ‘headlights,’ ‘lighting,’ and even checked the ‘Convenience Features’ section, but still nothing about the light bar. All I know is that it briefly comes on when I unlock the car, but I never see it on while driving at night, even when the headlights are set to auto.

I’ve got a 2024 Calligraphy, which I love, but the manual is driving me nuts! Anyone know how this light bar is supposed to work?

It should turn on with the parking lights. If it doesn’t come on when the headlights are on, it might be an issue with the light bar, and the dealership should be able to fix it under warranty.

I’ll definitely check with the dealership. It does come on, but only for a moment when I unlock the car, then stays off while driving at night. Maybe it’s a malfunction. Thanks for the tip!

Are you asking about the accent light?

I’m talking about the narrow light strip that runs across the grille between the headlights. It lights up when I unlock the car but then goes off and doesn’t stay on.

Got it. I think Hyundai calls it an ‘auxiliary light,’ and that’s mentioned on page 625 of the manual. Not much other info though.

Weird, my manual doesn’t even have a page 625 or anything labeled ‘auxiliary lighting.’ Whoever made this manual clearly doesn’t understand how to make a good index! Thanks for pointing it out though.

The light bar should come on at night or when the headlights are fully turned on. I can see mine reflected in the cars in front of me.

I never see mine on at night either. I keep the headlights set to auto.

I was playing around with the settings on my Limited today. When the lights are in auto mode, only the main headlights turn on. If you switch to parking lights, the light bar comes on along with the dimmed headlights. In low beam mode, the light bar stays on.

From what I’ve seen, the daytime running lights (DRL) only light up the main headlights. The light bar comes on dimly when the parking lights or low beams are turned on.

The light bar turns off when you start driving. It’s only on when the car is in park.

So it only lights up when the car is parked? Interesting!

Actually, I’ve seen it on while my girlfriend was driving, so it does come on sometimes. I think it’s only active at night when the headlights are on. It’s kind of like a replacement for fog lights. You could try forcing the headlights on or covering the sensor on the dashboard with something to simulate nighttime.

@Sky
Good idea, I’ll give that a try!

Yeah, the light bar only works when the car is stationary, like when it’s parked. It’s the same for the ambient lighting inside the car—they’re only on when the car’s in park.
