Anyone else having issues with the Hyundai digital key?

I’m loving the idea of using the Hyundai digital key, especially since the physical key fob is pretty bulky and I don’t love carrying it around. For context, I have the 2025 Calligraphy model. However, I’ve been noticing some odd things when using just my phone to access the car. When I approach the locked vehicle and place my thumb on the driver’s door handle, sometimes it doesn’t respond, or it seems to be re-locking the doors. This is a bit awkward when it happens in public. It also happens the other way around, when I try to lock the doors by placing my thumb on the handle, nothing happens, or it just unlocks the doors again. I’ve also noticed that when I approach the back of the vehicle, the lift gate will sometimes open on its own without me even touching it or wanting to open it. I’m hoping this is just a settings issue that I missed, but I’m curious if anyone else is experiencing the same thing. Any help would be appreciated!

The lock area is the visible depressed square on the outside of the handle. The unlock is on the inside of the door handle. You’re probably touching both at the same time, which is why it’s doing different things at different times. To close, touch the outside square without touching the inside of the door handle. I just use my index finger or thumb and press the square. To open, touch the inside of the door handle without touching the outside square. I usually just grab the handle with my thumb out or my palm away from the handle and it works every time.

Wow, thanks for the explanation. I appreciate the insight. Who needs the user manual when you have this forum :sunglasses:

I also disabled the approach lift gate function in the vehicle settings because I kept triggering it too easily.

With the Digital key, it often picks up your phone, but sometimes it doesn’t, so the car doesn’t respond. The little indent on the door handle is for locking only. To unlock your door, place your hand on the inner side of the handle, opposite to where the indent is for locking. For the tailgate opening when you pass by, you can turn that off in the vehicle settings.

Awesome, thanks for the info! Super helpful.

Same issues happening here. The back lift gate keeps opening by itself. It’s getting really annoying.

On your infotainment screen, go to
Setup > Vehicle > Door > Smart Liftgate
And disable that setting.

@Jonah
Nice! Appreciate that. That did the trick.

Yeah, I had to disable mine too. It would open when going through the garage door. Way too sensitive.

I know what you mean with the door handle and the lock/unlock issues. It happens to me too. It’s just a matter of being more strategic about where you touch the door handle.

Yeah, from everyone else’s replies, it looks like that’s the case. A lot of good info here.

The unlock sensor is on the inside of the door handle, where your fingers wrap around the handle.

Love it. Thank you!
