Just picked up a 2019 Santa Fe Luxury with the 2.0 Turbo! It’s only at 68,000 km right now, but I keep seeing posts about Hyundai engines having problems as they get older and it’s making me a bit nervous.
I’d love to hear from folks who’ve had a good experience—especially anyone out there with over 100k km and no big issues! Not every Hyundai has trouble at 100k, right? Just looking for a little reassurance here.
My 2019 has 46,000 miles on it, no issues so far! It’s the non-turbo engine, and I’ve been doing oil changes every 5k miles. Spark plugs are coming up with the next oil change. Only complaint is the silver on the window switches rubbing off, but that’s minor stuff.
Keep up with your oil changes and use synthetic! I recommend changing oil every 3,000 miles, but that’s just me. Hyundai engines can start burning a bit of oil as they age, so just check in between changes to make sure it’s topped up. Oil is key! Lack of it is the main reason engines go bad. I’m a Santa Fe fan myself.
@Zen
Totally agree on using good oil and changing it often! I’ve got a 2019 Santa Fe with 100,500 miles on it, running strong with no issues. Bought it brand new with only 11 miles on it!
2019 Santa Fe SEL 2.4L here with 100,500 miles. Key to keeping it running well has been regular maintenance for sure! I don’t always follow the manual; I do oil changes every 5,500 miles and change the transmission fluid every 50-60k (that stuff was burnt when I changed it!). Also replaced the front struts at 80,000 miles. Just stay on top of it, and you should be good. Congrats on the new ride!
@Lennie
Thanks! Quick question for you—my other car (a Honda CRV) has a system that shows oil life, so I know when to change it. Does the Santa Fe have anything like that? Or do you just go by mileage? I don’t know when the last changes were done on it, so I might need to take it to the dealer to check everything.
@Jade
If you’re unsure, best bet is to follow the maintenance schedule in the manual. They have teams of engineers who set it up to get the most life out of the engine. Or, for peace of mind, change the oil every 3-5k, transmission fluid every 50k, and coolant every 50k. Either way, you’re in good shape!
Bought my 2019 Santa Fe Limited 2.0 Turbo last year with 61,000 miles, now at 75,000 miles. No issues so far, and I grabbed an extended warranty just for peace of mind while I have the loan.
