Quick question: Is it possible to set the Santa Fe PHEV to precondition the battery or warm up the cabin automatically at a scheduled time?
Not exactly, but you can use the app on your phone to start it remotely. It just has to be done manually.

That works. I wonder if I could automate it with Shortcuts or something similar?
@Davis
The app requires you to log in with a password or use biometrics to start the car remotely. However, you can use remote start to do things like set the temperature, turn on the windshield defroster, and activate features like the mirror/rear defrosters or the heated steering wheel if your car has them.
@Nova
Does it use power from the wall or the car’s battery for those features?

When you use remote start, it starts the engine, so I believe it powers those accessories through the engine/generator. Cabin heat comes from the engine like in traditional cars, while air conditioning runs off electricity.

The AC will run on the battery, but heating will start the engine.

So there’s no way to heat the cabin using electricity alone? That’s not a dealbreaker, just curious.
Just to clarify, the Santa Fe Hybrid isn’t a PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle). It doesn’t plug in.

Actually, the 2022 and 2023 Santa Fe models could be purchased as PHEVs.
@Davis
Wow, didn’t know that.
@Davis
Plus, the 2024 and 2025 models are available as PHEVs in other markets like Korea and the UK.

From what I remember, the PHEV variant was sold in 13 states in the U.S. I picked mine up in Vermont.
@Nova
It’s odd that the previous generation had a plug-in version, but this one doesn’t.

It’s due to supply constraints. They haven’t released the PHEV version of the facelift model in the U.S. yet.
@Beck
Ah, that explains it. I didn’t know a PHEV version was on the way. Now I’m feeling a little buyer’s remorse!
