Just noticed that my 2025 Limited Hybrid allows full customization of the driver attention system. Not sure if this is new for the 2025 model year or came from a recent software update. Make sure to check your settings and let us know if you see the same!
These settings aren’t new. Turning off the forward attention warning only applies during normal driving. The attention system still works during smart cruise control for safety and liability reasons. A lot of people expect it to disable completely, but that’s not how it works.
@Lyle
Exactly. I turned it off on my 2024, but it still nags me about my face and disables cruise control constantly. And no, I’m not wearing polarized sunglasses or holding the wheel at 12 o’clock. This system just sucks.
@Kiernan
Might be how your seat is positioned or your size. I never have this issue, even with polarized glasses. Try adjusting your seat a bit?

Or maybe the steering wheel?
@Lyle
Can I turn off smart cruise control altogether?

Smart cruise control is only active when you turn it on using the left-side buttons on the steering wheel.

Thanks. So I guess I can’t turn off the ‘smart’ part of it, huh?
@Peyton
Haha, why would you want to? It’s great! It’s almost like self-driving, especially in stop-and-go traffic.
These settings are on my 2024 too. I have both features turned on, and they’ve helped me a lot.

Forward attention warning is a common complaint here.

Haha, I know. I guess I’m one of the few who actually like it.
I’ve found one cause of the issue: half-rim glasses or sunglasses. Full-rim glasses seem to work fine, but half-rim frames make the system constantly chime.
Drove 7 hours with my wife. I wore half-rim glasses and got alerts non-stop. When I took them off, it stopped. My wife then drove wearing half-rim sunglasses, and the same thing happened. We bought cheap full-rim glasses at a gas station, and no more alerts for the rest of the trip, except when she briefly held the wheel at 12 o’clock.
