Smart key issues… any ideas?

I never had any problems with my 2024 XRT until today. I could lock, unlock, and start the car remotely using the app, but once inside, it wouldn’t detect the key. I tried using the start button with the fob, but no luck :disappointed:. I also tried with my spare key.

I had to tow the car to the dealership, but they were closed since it’s Sunday. I’m hoping it’s an easy fix.

I’ve read on forums that this could mean I need a body control module replacement. Anyone here dealt with this before? :thinking:

I’ve had this happen briefly a few times, but then it would recognize the key. Sorry you’re dealing with this, and I hope it’s an easy fix for you.

There’s a new BDC software update that might help with Smart Key recognition. TSB #: 24-01-084H. Could be worth checking out.

Do you have the fingerprint setup? I forgot my keys once, and with the app and fingerprint, it recognized me and started the car. I even once had my car in the middle of a lot and was able to move it with just the app and fingerprint.

@Ira
The XRT doesn’t have the fingerprint feature.

I don’t think it would’ve helped in this case. I tried both keys, and no luck. Normally the car unlocks when I approach, but today it didn’t. It seems like there’s an issue with the key sensor in the car.

What CIJ is saying is that you don’t always need the actual fob if you’ve got the app and fingerprint setup. I don’t even bring my fob half the time. Just my phone and fingerprint.

I know about the digital key. It uses NFC on the phone to act like the physical key, but in this case, I don’t think even the digital key would have worked.
